Weather-resistant materials such as zinc, stainless steel, aluminum, lead, and copper are used in roofing and joined using soft solder to ensure a material-to-material bond. When selecting a flux, care must be taken to ensure its chemical composition (activation) is compatible with the material. For galvanized gutters, unlike pure copper elements, a stronger flux is required to ensure proper wetting.
